Library patrons can choose from a
pre-selected list of books, movies, or music CDs available at the
library or on-line. Contributors will receive a charitable tax
receipt, if requested. You will also have the distinction of
being the first to borrow the item you select. This program
provides an opportunity to honor individuals, family members or friends
with a commemorative bookplate. Unless you wish to remain
anonymous, we'd also like to thank you for your generosity by including
your name on a published donor list.
You may choose any item from the Gorham Free Library’s Wish List. The
Library's Wish List program is available through
Amazon.com or at the Library Circulation Desk. We do ask, however,
that only hardcover books are purchased for our library.
If you still want to give, but would like us to choose how your
contribution will be put to work, you may use this
Adpot-a-book form. It can be mailed back or dropped off at the
library. Also, you can ask for a form at the Circulation Desk.
Simply bring your purchase from the pre-selected list to the library,
have it delivered direct to us or, if you can’t decide, just send in
your check with the form.
Why does the
library need money to buy books?
Public demand for library material has increased tremendously over the
last few years. People are borrowing more and more and they are
demanding a greater variety of materials. The Library has had
less funding for new materials recently due to funding cuts made by the
State Legislature.
Can I donate a
book or other item I have purchased to the Adopt-a-Book program?
If the item is in perfect condition and appears on our Wish List, then
this is acceptable.
What is the minimum
donation for Adopt-a-Book or Media Item?
While the library accepts donations of any amount, the cost of
administering the donation and the price of books necessitates at least
a $25 donation to participate in Adopt-a-Book.
If I donate a book via
the Amazon, can I receive a charitable tax deduction and bookplate?
Yes. Please contact our Library Director at 526-6655 for more
information.
Can I donate other
books?
Yes, we will accept used books in good condition for our collection or
for our book sale; however, we are not able to issue charitable tax
receipts for these books. Also, we cannot accept old encyclopedia
sets, textbooks, condensed books, or magazines.
Why only hardcover books?
Our library is very limited in space. We want to be sure to have the
best books on the shelves. Hardcover books have a longer lifespan,
especially when handled by several people. The exception would be if a
particular book has only been printed in paperback.
